Develop your confidence, skills and knowledge to accelerate workload migration from monolithic Java applications to microservices on OpenShift in this half-day hands on workshop.
Led by Ian Page, Head of Middleware at Tier 2 Consulting, this session consists of hands-on labs with live support to migrate a sample application.
You will learn cloud-native tools and techniques as we guide you on the incremental steps to:
- Move off a legacy Java platform and onto JBoss EAP
- Refactor the application to microservices
- Make use of OpenShift to effectively deploy and manage it at scale on the cloud.
This event is a practical demonstrative workshop on how to begin the journey to cloud guided by our in-house expert team. We will guide you on how to refactor an application to microservices and make use of OpenShift to effectively deploy and manage it at scale on the cloud. The session will share in technical detail how to move off a legacy Java platform and onto JBoss EAP, and then onto the cloud with OpenShift.
You will discover how to:
- Modernise: Deploy an application to the Cloud using Red Hat OpenShift.
- Use the Migration Toolkit: To identify application components that need to be updated.
- Use Red Hat Runtimes: To split some of the functionality up into separate services to deploy independently, including Quarkus & Spring Boot.
This event is particularly suitable for developers that manage Java-based apps (or those in other technical roles) looking to adopt cloud-native skills.

Ian Page
Head of Middleware
Ian Page is a highly experienced Middleware Consultant, a Solution and Technology Architect and a Red Hat accredited OpenShift specialist.
With a highly technical background, Ian is both the Head of Middleware at Tier 2 as well as being heavily involved in delivering projects: creating architecture designs, building proofs of concept, implementing solutions, and training and mentoring. These have been for a variety of market sectors including Banking, Finance, Insurance, Government, Telecommunications, and Automotive, both in the UK and Europe.
With over twenty years’ experience in middleware, Ian’s primary focus is enterprise integration, microservices, and cloud-based applications.
